DRILLERS HIT THE GROUND RUNNING
WITH 48 TO 26 VICTORY OVER THE CURRY
COUNTY CATS
CHAD THOMPSON RUSHES FOR 312 YARDS,
AND DUSTY STAPP FOR 120 YARDS

MIDLAND, TX -  The West Texas Drillers looked to start off the 2012 season on the right foot at home on Saturday versus the Curry County Cats.  The game plan was to use a strong ground attack.  This game plan worked well as the 2011 Minor Professional Football League MVP Chad Thompson ran for 312 yards and 5 touchdowns, and Dusty Stapp ran for 121 and a touchdown and Jerry Don Zachery chipped in with and 80 yard rushing day.
The Drillers also had a good game on defense forcing 6 turnovers.  Defensive Backs Rich Garrett and Tevin Collier lead the way for the team each causing 2 turnovers.  Rich had 2 interceptions and  while Tevin had an interception and caused a fumble that he also recovered.  Safety Allen Harrison and Devon Zimmerman each also picked off a pass.

Drillers head Coach Nick  Stone stated that,  “When we can run the ball as well as we did tonight and the defense can force that many turnovers we are going to be hard to beat.”  While, Chad Thompson credited his Offensive Line by saying, “those guys had a great game it’s fun to carry the ball with those guys creating the holes.

As the Drillers look forward to the next few games they start of the season against some strong opponents.  Next week the Drillers will head up to Amarillo to take on the Titans.  Last year’s game in Amarillo was one of the closet fought battle of the entire season.  Linebacker Mike Heetland stated that “the Titans are going to be ready for us and we expect a good battle.”  The Drillers next home game will be on Saturday, March 3 versus the El Paso Seminoles.  The Drillers defeated the Seminoles in the playoffs last year on their way to the championship game.

At  the game on March 3 the Drillers will be giving away 500 posters of the Lady Drillers Dance Team.  But more importantly $4 from every ticket will be donated to the St. Jude’s Research Center compliments of Compass Pediatrics, Dickey’s Barbecue, 7-11 and the Drillers Football team. Six year old Trevor Treadway and his family will also be honored at the game.  Trevor is from Midland and is receiving treatment at the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Center for a brain tumor.  Tickets for all Drillers home games can be purchased at any 7-11 location in Midland-Odessa-Big Spring for only $10.

Jay said that, “I chose them to use the tickets for their needs with children who may have a child needing a distraction.”

FORMER WEST TEXAS SOCKERS GOALIE LEIF CRADDOCK

TO PLAY FOR THE DRILLERS

MIDLAND, TX. – The West Texas Drillers Football Team is proud to announce that former West Texas Sockers Goalie Leif Craddock has committed to be play as Punter/Kicker for the Drillers for the upcoming season that he will literally kick off on February 18, 2012.

Craddock  played football for Randall High School where he graduated in 2003.  However, he decided to take his talents as a goalie to the soccer pitch where he played four seasons for Eastern New Mexico where he was the first player in ENMU history to be named 1st Team All-Southwest Soccer Conference.   Craddock then played soccer for the Sioux Falls Spitfire.  Then Craddock joined the West Texas Sockers, as part of the Sockers he was named Most Valuable Player by his team mates.

Coach Nick Stone stated, “It’s great to add a talented athlete to our  team that has been a leader on a team no matter what sport he was playing.”  Coach Stone went onto comment on Craddock’s punting style by saying, “He bring a unique style to our punting game that other teams may struggle with.”

Leaf said, “I can’t wait to strap on a pair of shoulder pads and a helmet and play some football.”  While Drillers General Manager Harold Fuller added, “I have enjoyed watching Leif play for the Sockers and been very impressed with his leadership skills on and off the pitch and I can’t wait to see him convert his skills to the football field.”

MIDLAND, TX. – The West Texas Drillers Football Team is proud to announce that Evan Frosh has committed to play for the organization for the upcoming season that kicks off in February 2012.
Frosch is a native of Midland, Texas and played linebacker in high school for Midland Lee and was named to the 5A Texas Football.com 2005 Super List. Frosch went on to play at TCU where his size and athleticism helped him make a transition to the tight end position, while their he played in 40 games over 4 seasons, after redshirting as a true freshman in 2006. He became known for his exceptional blocking skills but he proved to have soft hands when he was called upon. Over his last 2 seasons at TCU the Horned Frogs went 25 -1 and played in the 2010 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and the 2011 Rose Bowl and Frosch earned Honorable Mention All-Mountain Conference honors.
As a free agent Frosch was invited to the Cleveland Browns training camp where he was kept until the final cuts were made before the regular season. Evan hopes to be invited back to the NFL this year and the Drillers hope to help him do just that.
The West Texas Drillers are coming off an undefeated regular season that saw the team lose to the San Antonio Warriors in the MPFL Championship game 21-17. Drillers Head Coach Nick Stone said. “We hope that players like Evan can help us get over that last hump to be where we want to be and that we can do the same for him.” While Evan stated that “I am excited to have the opportunity to play in front of my home town and I am ready to do whatever I can do to help the Drillers win a championship.”
