DRILLERS BLOW OUT

LUBBOCK OUTLAWS

Midland, TX – Going into Saturday’s Drillers game versus the Lubbock Outlaws in Midland, Texas the Drillers defense had not given up any points in the last 3 ½ games (14 quarters).  After the game the streak was extended to 4 ½ games (18 quarters).  While the Drillers put 66 points on the scoreboard for the blowout win.

The Drillers defense had another dominating performance.  Five different players, Devon Zimmerman, Brad Richard, Marcus Stenix, Allan Harrison and Rich Garrett, all intercepted passes.  Richard and Stenix returned their interception for touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Drillers offense would also find a lot of scoring success.  Drillers kicker Mark Dearing would start the scoring on the first Drillers possession with a 42 yard field goal.  The Drillers would then score touchdowns on the next 3 possessions with a 71 yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Duby, a 12 touchdown run from Jorge Castillo and a 29 yard touchdown run from Chad Thompson.  Duby and Thompson would both score a 2nd touchdown in the game,  Duby with 6 yard touchdown catch and  Thompson with another 29 yard run.  Oe’sha Schoclet added a touchdown on a 16 yard end around and Fred Threwatt would round out the scoreing with a 5 yard touchdown.    This made the final score West Texas Drillers 66 at Lubbock Outlaws 0.

The game was also Military Appreciation Night and the team honored several special guest at halftime including 5 wounded warriors Lcpl. Roberto Vega, Lcpl. Blake Watson, Lcpl. Danny Robledo, Cpl. Brian Aft and Ssgt. Mark Juarez and the families of Cprl. Ray Bevels and Sgt. John Castrow.

The Drillers next game is at Grande Communications Stadium on Saturday, April 6 at 7 pm versus the Texas Skyforce.  This game will be the Drillers 3rd annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night.  Last season the Drillers honored 32 Breast Cancer Survivors at the game and were able to raise $5300 for free mammograms during a halftime auction of the pink footballs that team uses during this event.
